Glenn Hauser logs June 20-21, 2017

** ALASKA. 11885 // 11870, June 21 at 1205, KNLS English once again doubling up only a sesquidekakHz apart, instead of one on 7355; 1307 ``New Life Station`` ID. About equal, fading around S6. At 1315, Chinese still on 11885 much stronger than // 9655. I suppose they are on different azimuths, of which KNLS has four available, thanks to slewing at 15-degree intervals: 270, 285, 300 and 315 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ANTARCTICA [non]. I don`t expect to get much of it directly here, but in case you haven`t heard about it, the annual BBCWS special to Antarcticans is imminent, June 21 at 2130-2200 on 5985 Woofferton UK, 6035 UAE, and 7360 Ascension. Via Harald Kuhl, BDXC-UK, a notice about it but lacking these significant details:

(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ARGENTINA [non]. 11580, June 21 at 1400, RAE via WRMI, opening Spanish still as ``primera edición`` on 5950 at 2200 UT June 20. By now there should be a ``segunda edición`` available to broadcast, if not a primera for this day. It seems RAE announcer is still unaware of this transmission (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BENIN. Benin in on 1566 MW --- From 0353 past 0412 June 21 I had a JBA carrier on 1566 looping about 80 degrees, which fits for TWR`s 100 kW transmitter. Tnx to tip from guys in western Canada (Don Moman, AB and Nick Hall-Patch, BC) who were hearing 1566 before and after 0500 last night. WRTH says TWR morning schedule is 0315-0545. No other splits audible here in the 1500s (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, and welcome to Summer! 0433 UT June 21 as amended, dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6145, June 21 at 0406, this RHC is OFF; English still on 6000, and Spanish 6060 also on, but not enough to make a leapfrog onto 6230 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** IRAN [non]. 17690, June 21 at 1424, poor S9 signal sounds like hymn, then just pop music; 1430 widely-spaced 3 or 4 pip timesignal ending 2 seconds late, Radio Farda ID and presumed news. HFCC shows 0930-1530, 100 kW, 85 degrees from Biblis, GERMANY (but also registered on 17690 at 1200-1600 ``for tests`` is imaginary Algerian 300 kW).

Via David Cole, here`s a rather critical opinion in the WSJ:

Well, of course it doesn`t, since Farda means Tomorrow, not Liberty! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1882 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday June 20 at 2130 on WRMI 9455 & 15770. This time the two are about equal F-G level, but different modulation quality: ``fuller`` on 9455 than 15770. Also confirmed Tue June 20 at 2330 on WBCQ 9330+v-CUSB, fair. Also confirmed Wednesday June 22 at 1315 on WRMI 9955, S9+10 vs my hi line noise level. Next:
Wed 2100   WBCQ 7490v to WSW
Wed 2330   WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 3215, June 21 at 0403, WWCR is open carrier/dead air. Unfortunately there`s still Brother HyStairical nearby on 3185 WWRB (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 12105 & 9930, June 20 at 2005, these WTWWs are still AWOL, while 9475 only remains (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 17775, June 21 at 1424, no signal from KVOH, yet several on 16m from Eurasia: Germany, Saudi Arabia, and on 17770 Turkey. Retune at 1426 now there`s an S8 on 17775 from KVOH, so just turned on, or MUF popped up from the west? Usual wobble upon carrier, still notable after 1800 check (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1570, June 21 at 0358 UT, long string of FM translator IDs including some in AR and KS; no doubt it`s Bott network station KBCV, Hollister MO (Springfield address), 5000/3000 U4 whose own translator is K280FP on 103.9 per NRC AM Log --- at the moment atop XERF without really trying (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 93.5, June 21 at 1520 UT, ``Number one new music station, Power 93.5``, i.e. KDGS Andover KS near Wichita, 15 kW, 114 m HAAT. There is supposed to be a sporadic E opening thru the entire FM band, but not reaching here --- instead enhanced area tropo from KS and OK (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
