Glenn Hauser logs June 19-20, 2017

** ALASKA. 11885, June 19 at 1314, KNLS back on wrong(?) frequency again in Chinese at S8, much stronger than // 9655 JBA. By now 11870 is off. So in the 12-13 hour, was English again on both 11870 & 11885?

Recheck June 20 at 1258: 11885 is not on, and 11870 is just finishing with song, 1259 open carrier, off at 1301*. 9655 can be heard from *1300 with KNLS IS before Chinese (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ARGENTINA [non]. 11580, Monday June 19 at 1319, RAE in French via WRMI during `Actualité DX` about DW broadcasts to Afghanistan, outro at 1323 as ``tous les samedis``, pas vendredis, not lundis (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CANADA. 7850-CUSB, June 20 at 0601, CHU reactivated after a few days off this frequency, to replace antenna cable? Also audible on // 3330-CUSB (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CANADA. RF channel A2, 55.25v MHz video, June 19 at 1614 UT, another rare glimpse of some NTSC DX, during sporadic E opening, which on 6m almost spans Ontario to Oklahoma. It`s a YL anchor in center frame, and a letter graphic, I think in English, gone again. And no audio.

This fits for the EDT noon news on both Global and CTV networks, but per 6m map more likely from CIII-TV-2, 100 kW ERP in Bancroft ON, which is Global; rather than CHBX-TV, Sault Ste. Marie, 100 kW with CTV. These are the only two known remaining non-DTV channel 2 full power TV stations in eastern Canada, both at easy E-skip range from here and seen many times before. Another flash of video attained at 1634, but can`t tell what. Global news is for half an hour, then ET Canada, while CTV news takes a full hour. My antenna is still aimed at OKC, so anything from Ontario is way off to the side.

Bancroft is a small town of 3K+ which must have been chosen as a good spot for a satellite TV station relay covering a large rural area, centered about halfway between Ottawa and Barrie, or between Trenton and Algonquin Provincial Park. 1937 km / 1204 statute miles from Enid.

My analog Zenith 12-inch TV set will lock into video only on peaks, otherwise, horizontal hold is lost, with diagonal lines at least tipping off that a signal is trying to come in. Earlier sets had accessible HH adjustments. This one on the back has pots for contrast and black level, and a third hole for HH but requires a tool to reach it. Besides, if I started messing with it, might be out of whack when a full signal infade. I still put in very long hours of monitoring nothing but snow on this set next to it while at the computer, and there is any Es activity. Also checking RF channel 48 when there is any tropo, but no sign of KOCY-LP OKC since last reported weeks ago with transmitter cutting off and on the air (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** COLOMBIA. 5910.274, June 20 at 0607, undermodulated music on carrier wavering a bit and way off-frequency as usual: Alcaraván Radio reactivated after missing a week or two during random evening chex; also with sporadic ``running water`` ute QRM as usual against this frequency. JBA carrier on 6010+, likely Brasil rather than sibling HJDH, which would be weaker than 5910v, but not that weak (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6000, UT Monday June 19 at 0624, RHC with Arnie Coro still speaking, so `DXers Unlimited` lasting longer than the :09-:23v span I had in DX/SWL/MEDIA PROGRAMS. Tho S9, 6000 is just barely modulated (JBM) as too often the case. 6060 and 6100 are OK, while 6145 is also undermodulated, but better than 6000. 5040 is off during this final repeat English hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. Heavy tropo around here the morning of June 20, at 1455 UT, lots of BAD DTV signals on UHF, but nothing DX decoding. One OKC local is unusually breaking up, implying DX QRM: KOKH RF 24. Consulting W9WI.com for possible sources: low powers in Ardmore OK, Tulsa OK (why would KTUL, virtual 8, have an extra transmitter here, in addition to RF 10?); Dallas and several other TX towns; megawatts in Houston and Abilene (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1882 monitoring: confirmed Monday June 19 at 2330, on WBCQ 9330.00v-CUSB, fair. Also confirmed UT Tuesday June 20 at 0030 on WRMI 7730, very good. Next:
Tue 2130   WRMI 9455 to WNW, 15770 to NE
Tue 2330   WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Wed 1030   WRMI 5850 to NW, 9455 to WNW
Wed 1315   WRMI 9955 to SSE
Wed 2100   WBCQ 7490v to WSW
Wed 2330   WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7490v, UT Monday June 19 at 0628, WBCQ again with `The Other Side of Midnight` far-out conspiracy talkshow, now apparently UT Sun & Mon at 0400-0700. Other nights not on air this late; at 0700 IDs for WBCQ and WXME 780, which is WBCQ`s AM station in Maine, so evidently just adding SW // for this (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 4840, June 20 at 0605, WWCR starting `Real Radio`, with QRM on hi side sounding like pulse jamming; evitable by switching to LSB tuning (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
